Spring Break

A couple of weeks ago we had our spring break. That week was fun because we were able to relax and get away from school work. We all had a very busy week but missed our teachers and friends greatly. Once we got back from school the middle school soccer team had a few games. They are working hard toward their first win. Thursday they are playing SVCA, so good luck middle school!! Also when the girls' JV team got back from break, they played SVCA and won 2-0. After that the JV girls played RMA and won 4-1. They are doing a really good job this year!

Secondary Chapel

Today, the Secondary School had a Chapel service. In the Chapel service, we watched a video that the Juniors and Seniors made about the death, resurrection, and second coming of Christ. It was an amazing video!! Also, we were able to sing a few songs to praise God. We ended with a moment of silent prayer. It was an outstanding Chapel.

Special thanks to the Juniors, Seniors, and Mrs. Douthit for making a video that had a great impact on the Secondary students.

Easter Break!

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel. And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest. Now it was Mary Magdalene and Joanna and Mary the mother of James and the other women with them who told these things to the apostles, but these words seemed to them an idle tale, and they did not believe them. But Peter rose and ran to the tomb; stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths by themselves; and he went home marveling at what had happened.

Soccer and Planetarium

This past week the girls' soccer season started. Our first varsity game was in the SVCA Tournament. Excitingly we came in second place. The middle school team also had their first game against Wakefield Country Day School. They lost 1-0, but they played a really good game. They also had another game against Fresta Valley and lost 3-1. They played really hard and will be ready to beat them next time.

Another cool thing that happened at RCS was that we had a Traveling Planetarium come to our school. The Planetarium is an inflatable "bubble" that allows people to go inside and get a close-up view of our galaxy. The man who brought the Planetarium was able to take us through space. Everyone enjoyed it and would love to experience it again.

Interact and Homestead

This week eight members of our Interact Club went to The Homestead in Hot Springs, Virginia, with Mrs. Lucas and Mrs. Douthit as the chaperones. Interact Club is sponsored by the Rotary Club and allows teenagers to help out local and international communities. The Rotary hosted their biannual conference at The Homestead. At the conference, there were many great speakers, including students who won the Rotary Speech Contest earlier this year. The Rotary also sponsors foreign exchange students (inbound and outbound), so we were able to hear about their experiences in the U.S. In addition, we were able to learn about what the Interact Clubs all over Virginia are doing to help their community. After the conference, we were able to explore the amazing resort. The Homestead was one of the biggest places we have ever seen! They have a bowling alley, an ice cream/coffee shop, clothing stores, a spa, an indoor pool and many more things to enjoy. We were very thankful to have this opportunity!

What a Busy Week!

This past week, our students entered the Fredericksburg Spelling Bee. The grades that participated were 1st-8th. Many of our students were able to go to the competition, and two of them placed. In Third Grade, Stacy Parks received Third Place. For Fifth Grade, Dan Cole received Fourth Place. Everyone did a good job and worked very hard.

Also, the students were able to participate in the ACSI District Math Olympics. Here are the results:

In the category of Computation the winners are:
1st place: Katie Jones-8th grade, Ally Callihan-7th grade, Gordon Anderson-6th grade
2nd place: Rachel Rankin-4th grade
4th place: Jordan Dunford-8th grade
5th place: Ryan Ark-3rd grade

In the category of Reasoning the winners are:
1st place: Sarah Dodge-7th grade
2nd place: Dan Cole-5th grade
3rd place: Nick Simpson -3rd grade, Rose Norris-3rd grade
5th place: Emma Jones-4th grade, Emily Dodge-5th grade

Good job everyone!!! A special thank you goes to all the parents who volunteered.

Also this week we had our second Secondary Chapel. We had a time of praise and worship. After this we had a guest speaker, Pastor Lee Montgomery from New Hope Bible Church. We would like to thank him for taking his time to come and share his message! It was an outstanding chapel service. All in all, it was a very exciting week at RCS.

Science Fair

Last week at RCS we had our annual Science Fair. It was a great success. There were two categories for Science Fair projects. The category for grades 7 and 8 was “Inventions”. The category for grades 9 and 10 was “Investigations”. Everyone did an outstanding job!

In the Investigations category:
· The Grand Prize was awarded to Hunter VanDoren for his experiment “Focus Furnace”
· First Place winner was Trey Lucie with his experiment “God’s Amazing Filters”
· Second Place went to Amanda Callihan for her experiment “The Force of Attraction”
· Third Place was awarded to Megan Tederick for her experiment “ The Silent Sound”
· Honorable Mention went to Josh Lucas for his experiment “Breaking Surface Tension”

In the Inventions category:
· First Place was awarded to Wade Bailey for the “Scan-as-You Go Shopping Cart”
· Second place went to Ally Callihan for her invention the “Talk -n- Texter”
· Third place went to Cristina Tederick for her project “The Temperater”
· Honorable Mention was awarded to Fiona Sayers for her invention “The Solar Powered
Container”
