A Week at RCS

This week our new history teacher, Ms. Ouakil, will have her first full week at RCS. Although we miss our former history teacher, our new teacher is highly qualified and personable. We know that we will enjoy the rest of the school year with her as our teacher. We are also in the last week of preparation for RCS's Annual Science Fair. Some time this week we will be turning in our final papers, and next Monday we will have the actual science fair. Besides that our week is going to be pretty normal. Unfortunately we don't have much going on, but we are still thankful to have such a great school to attend.

Final Week of Basketball

Last week at RCS brought the final games of the basketball season. The games were both exciting but sad at the same time. The exciting part was that both girls' and boys' teams won their games. The sad part was that these games were our Seniors' last games. The girls went out with a bang by winning 58 to 23. Also the boys dominated by winning 64 to 54. At the end of the season the girls went undefeated, and the boys had a 5 - 4 record. To wrap up basketball this year, we will be having a parent/teacher vs. student game. This is one of the most anticipated parts of the basketball season. We would like to thank our athletic director, Kim Lucas, for coordinating all of our games. Also we would like to thank the girls' coach, Tom Booterbaugh, and the boys' coach, Jamie Booterbaugh, for a great and successful season.

Talent Show

Saturday, February 7, was Riverfront's 3rd Annual Talent Show which was held to support our 6th, 7th and 9th grades mission trips. The night started off exciting with a lot of singing by several kids in various grades. One very entertaining part of the night was when our teacher Mr. Dodge put on a magic show. He also showed off his juggling skills by juggling 100 times in one minute. After completing this, he again juggled 100 times in 30 seconds! To mix things up, he challenged the crowd to make a donation if he could achieve this goal. Excitingly he completed the goal and raised over $230! Toward the end of the night, some of the high school boys put on a skit called Last Man Standing. This skit was a parody of survivor. After all the acts were over we were able to enjoy some desserts and a time to visit with friends and family. We would like to thank Mrs. Callihan for all of her hard work in putting together the wonderful talent show this year.

RCS

When you come to Riverfront Christian School, you can look forward to many fun and exciting things. RCS is a non-denominational Christian school that is located in Front Royal, Virginia. It is relatively new, as it began fifteen years ago in September of 1994. As such, it is also a relatively small school, with 159 students currently enrolled. The small size of the school allows the students to form close friendships with everyone around them, including the teachers. Teachers are able to give each student what he or she needs to understand the topic at hand. The academics at RCS are rigorous and challenging and, together with the Christian education that is provided, will ensure that all of the students who graduate from RCS will have the knowledge they need to succeed in life. Aside from the academics, RCS also has several great extracurricular activities, including soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis, golf, student government, Interact Club (which is a branch of the Rotary foundation), Adventure Club, Rodin’s Thinkers (a logical gaming club), and more.

Spirit Week!

Last week at our school was Spirit Week. It was very exciting because we had different themes everyday and had to dress up according to each theme. Monday was Crazy Hair Day. A few guys in our school showed up with mohawks along with everyone else that had crazy hair. That same day we had a basketball game. Both the girls and boys teams won their games. Tuesday and Wednesday unfortunately were snow days, but they were going to be Mix-n-Match Day and Favorite Team Day. We're making up these two days this week. Thursday was Patriotic Day. The best of all five days was Friday which was Spirit Day. After 7th period, we had a pep rally where all the grades fought for the Spirit Sticks, which were given to one class each from Elementary and Secondary. The winning classes get to keep the stick until next year. Also on Friday the cheerleaders were in charge of picking the door that showed the most school spirit. Each homeroom was instructed to decorate their door and the winning class was rewarded with a Dress Down Day card. We also had a basketball game on Friday. This was an exciting game! The girls' V team won 47 to 29 and the boys came very close to winning, but they lost 47 to 53. To reward us for our hard work, the coaches took us out for pizza. We all had a bunch of fun hanging out with all of our friends and teammates. This was a very exciting and encouraging week for the Rams at Riverfront.
